Kurzweil 3000 (Document Screen Reader)

Need to “hear” the text read to you for better comprehension or because it is hard to see the text clearly? Learn how to take control and master the basics of this document screen reader application:  navigation, scanning material into application, reading within application, adjusting options, using the Study Skills, Writing, Reading toolbars and using it on the Web.

Session 1: Scanning and Reading. Learn how to scan written text with photos and graphics into the application. You will be able to “see” the exact page as it is in the book (what you see is what you get). Be able to then read the written text within Kurzweil.

Session 2: Reading options. Learn how to adjust the Reading toolbar options to meet your specific needs. Adjust how the voice speak by choosing a particular voice-male or female. Plus other options to work with. It is easy and simple to do.

Session 3: Study Skills options. Learn how to adjust the Study Skills options to meet you specific needs for highlighting text. You can even put “notes” in the text. Learn how to “extract” highlighted words to make a vocabulary list.

Session 4: Writing options. Learn how to adjust how the options are turned on for writing. You can choose from: Speaking As Typing= All Characters/Whole Words/Whole Sentences. Preferred choice:  Speak All Characters

Session 5: Practice lessons. Learn how to improve your new knowledge and skills with more practice. Become more proficient with the application.

Session 6: Reading on the Web. Learn how to use the application on the world wide web; navigate through various websites and have it read everything on the sites. Find out what works and what does not work.

Session 7: Create a CD File. Learn how to save your Kurzweil file to a CD-RW for later use in a different format.

Session 8: Final Lesson. Learn how to write within Kurzweil, save and print your work at the end of the session.

Need to “hear” text read in MS Office as you type? This course will familiarize you with how Read & Write Gold interfaces with the Office’s new Fluent User Interface (a tabbed toolbar, also known as the Ribbon) and productivity features. Training includes features common to Word and how to access the Read & Write toolbar. Learn how to the toolbar easily turns text to speech when you click on the “green” read button.

Reading option: Learn how to read by: word, sentence, paragraph, or continuously.

Study Skill Tools: Learn how to use the highlighters to mark portions of the content.

Speak While Typing: Learn how to read written work aloud while typing content.

Spelling and Word Prediction: Learn how to use the spelling and word prediction options.

Read Inaccessible Text: Learn how to read inaccessible text, such as embedded in an image or inaccessible Flash.

Adobe Reader: Learn how to read PDF files with this application.

The Web: Learn how to read the world wide web with this application; see how it can read various websites. Watch can be read and what cannot be read.

DAISY format: Learn how to read book content from publishers in this format with this application.

NIMAS: Learn how to convert NIMAS files to student ready files directly through the Read & Write Gold toolbar.
